The Zimbabwe Association is deeply saddened to announce that Alan Wilkinson has died.
Alan was an extraordinary person who co-founded the ZA in 2001 and became chair of the board of Trustees in 2009. He was an activist on many fronts and a friend and mentor to Zimbabweans and non-Zimbabweans alike.
Alan ‘lit the way’ for the ZA, he had a very special capacity to inspire a roomful of people and create an enthusiastic, motivated team. He radiated confidence, and a belief in our own capacities to solve problems. We loved him and will miss him hugely.
Alan’s passing was completely unexpected – he died suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on 24 August after attending a friend’s wedding in the north of England. [The coroner has announced that he died of a heart attack.] We await news of the funeral arrangements.
Alan had a sister in Australia, Lynne. Messages may be sent to his executor Esma O’Neill https://www.facebook.com/esma.levendoglu?fref=nf&pnref=story
